Almost got scammed today

So Sabbasaun and I are outside of Top Foods just chatting when these two guys approach us in an SUV offering us a "deal" on some brand new Olin Ross home theater system speakers. He claims they beat out Harman Kardon and Bose in sound and such and such and shows us a magazine where they are advertised for around $2499 MSRP. Anyhow, fortunately for us neither of us have the money to buy in. I was suspicious to begin with not having heard of the brand and also knowing most wireless speaker systems sound like crap.

Turns out these two guys are preying on people to buy cheap $99 Chinese speakers hocking them as if they were $2499 speakers. The link above details other people that have been taken by these scammers. Don't get fooled into buying into a "good deal", they had a whole story about it being accidentally shipped extra to them and that if they don't hock it fast their boss will end up taking it and selling it on ebay.

Anyhow, just getting the word out so that people don't get scammed by these crooks. Turns out they are all over the states pulling this scam and even have their own website, OlinRoss.com. So watch out! Sometimes they sell other brands of speakers too, but it's the same scam.

Yeah I wouldn't say we almost got scammed, as I wasn't going to buy anything anyways. What was very suspicous to me though was they were touting these as state of the art, VERY high end systems, but on the boxes they were only 5.1 systems. They also wanted to drive to the ATM so we would get cash but when I offered to have my co-workers take a look just one block away they refused.

Remember guys, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

Yeah who's gonna buy a high end system off the street? What top foods was it the one on South Hill?

Thats when you pull out the conceal carry piece and yell "GIMME ALL YOUR SPEAKERS!" as you scare the living crap out of them and they speed off.

This was in Tacoma. People get scammed like this all the time, they think they are getting a really good deal and/or they are pressured into buying and they constantly ask, "How much can you afford? How much do you got in your ATM? How much can you get out right now?" It's high pressure selling at its best and many people fall for it.
