Just wanted to vent. Had a laptop crash the other day and I've been work'n on it for the last couple of days. At first the hard drive was thought the be the culprit because doing a scan on it revealed a bad block. That would explain some of the read/write errors I was seeing when trying to boot into it. Well since I was confident it was the hard drive I went and ordered a new one. 160Gb to replace the 60Gb which was pretty darn full anyways. So out goes the old, in with the new. I'm think'n from here it should be smooth sailing. WRONG.. When tryng to reinstall Windows I kept getting "Setup can not copy xxx.xxx files!" I'm like, HUHH?? What the heck is going on? I'm think'n maybe the CD is bad, or maybe the new hard drive is bad. Well after trying everything and start to think maybe the DVD drive is bad. Well I decide to just skip the files that could not be copied and see how far I get. Well after skipping a few files the system would give me a Blue Screen of Death! This is not even in Windows, its in the setup screen! And now I can't even get the computer to boot into Windows Setup. This is really starting to tick me off now but the BSOD gave me a hint. I decided to take out a stick of ram. When I first bought the laptop I had bought a 1Gb stick of Corsair ValueRam to add to the 256mb it came with. Well as soon as I take that stick out and try to reinstall, guess what.. It works. I was able to install with no copying errors. Nothing in any of the error messages or logs indicated a ram issue. It was very frustrating. Ohwell I'm in the middle of installing Service Pack 3 because I don't want to mess with the individual updates since SP2. I'll have to try to find some more ram and hopefully this Laptop will last another couple years. Overall it has been a good laptop.
