I have owned my genesis for less than one month. The speedometer appears to be about 10% to fast. I clocked it with radar and will clock it tomorrow with a gps. I am on a lease. Will a faulty speedometer affect my mileage log? Does anyone else have this problem?

Hi Hoc, welcome to the forums. Can you be more specific? "10%" doesn't really tell us much. If you are going 10 MPH you are only going about 1MPH faster and if you are going 50MPH you are going 5mph faster. It is more likely a fixed amount (example: 5,10,15 mph) and not a percentage. We have some Hyundai techs on this site so I'm sure we will be able to give you some suggestions.

all cars have inaccurate speedo's. The speed on your speedometer is at least 3-5mph faster then you really are going. Of course it varies. Grap a portable gps unit that clocks speed and see for yourself :)

I used a tomtom xl one in my truck, gf's supra and her lexus. Truck was 4 mph off at hwy speeds. Supra was as much as 10 mph off going 155mph on the gps :) lexus was similar to the truck around 5mph.

to answer your question, the speedo has nothing to do with your odometer. Your fine.....

well usally its the other way around. Speedo's are going faster then you really are. All three cars i tested with my TOMtom, all 3 were doing slower speeds then the speedo's speed. Like i said, depends on the car but speedometers are inacurate either way lol.

A big factor is the tire diameter. Do you riding on stock tires ? Do you inflat your tires with the PSI recommanded ?
My winter tires vs my summer tires
25.68 (205/60R16) in vs 26.31 in (215/55R17)
At 75 MPH I've around 3-4 MPH difference.

Correct, most auto manufacturer's speedometers read faster than what you are actually doing, with BMW being about the worst (having the most deviation). This is another subject that has been discussed in depth on bimmerfest forums. Hyundai's are normally closer to accurate, but if you feel it is too far off you may want to take it in to have it checked for peace of mind. I don't think it's anything to worry about as long as it's reading above actual speed & not below, don't want a ticket.;)
