Hyundai Debuts on U.S. Top 10 Engine List

Hyundai Automotive Group's Tau engine

Hyundai Automotive Group's Tau engine was selected for the first time as one of America's ten best engines of 2009.
American motoring magazine Ward's Auto announced on Monday that Hyundai's Tau 4.6L DOHC V-8, 4.6-liter gasoline engine had made its 10 Best Engines list. The Tau engine was developed after four years of research and development and is the first eight-cylinder engine independently developed at home. It is installed on Hyundai's Genesis that is exported to the U.S. and Kia's Mohave, and will be installed on Hyundai’s large sedan VI, slated to make a debut in February next year.

Ward's Auto is a prestigious engine assessment institution and has declared the 10 best engines annually since 1994. Its best engine list has been dubbed the Oscars of automotive engines.

The Tau engine was praised for its "velvety power delivery, competitive performance," while its "attainable price epitomizes the Korean auto maker's drive for world-class engineering."

Besides Hyundai's Tau engine, power-plants made by Audi, BMW, Toyota, Honda, GM, Ford, and Chrysler also appeared on the best engine list

Good job Hyundai! I hope the 5.0 comes out with the cylinder deactivation or even the supercharged engine. Those will be award winners for sure.
Yeah, I can't wait to see how much power that 5.0 DI engine is going to make, the torque should be off the charts:rofl:
