Toronto Ontario, May 19, 2010. G1 Racing celebrated their first win in Toronto this weekend as Sasha Anis stormed to First Place finish in the #87 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. The team had been running strong all weekend, qualifying third on Friday and taking second place on Saturday's qualifying race.

Although the team had a challenging weekend managing engines and suspension issues, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe has clearly demonstrated it's performance capabilities this weekend. Starting second on the grid, Sasha Anis briefly took the lead but Nick Wittmer in the Lombardi Honda was able to squeeze past. However, halfway through the race, Sasha Anis was able to capitalize on the strength of the car and regain first position. He then clearly held the position and won by a comfortable margin.

Sasha Anis said "It's just crazy but wonderful. We thought that we would be in this position by the end of the year and we're already here with a win. Now we need to work on reliability and development but it's a fantastic day for us."

Team Owner Bob Attrell who was driving the #88 Autotrader Hyundai also commented: "It's not only a first for the team, but the first win for the Hyundai Genesis Coupe in North America professional road racing. It's been a very successful weekend for us. Sasha has done an amazing job driving the car."

The G1 Racing team have steadily progressed over the past few races, moving up the ranks to top ten places and now on top of the podium. With this historic win at one of Canada's most prestigious events, the team is looking forward to repeating the performance at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres August 13-15.

Thanks for posting our great result! This weekend was a dream come true. Our goal for the end of the season was to be on the podium, a victory being the absolute best case scenario but by no means an expectation.

To have our first win on the streets of Toronto, right where I grew up, infront of a big crowd including tons of friends and familly was epic. Many of our sponsors were out and we could not have put on a better show for them if we tried.

The first race was drizzling rain on and off and I was so worried it was going to start pouring rain on us - in which case the AWD and FWD cars would entirely walk away. The rain held out, and believe it our not it started to downpour and soak the track literally minutes after the race ended. The timing could not have been more perfect.

I was ecstatic after the Saturday race finishing 2nd, and would have been happy even if I wrote the car off on Sunday. But not only did I not get into any accidents on Sunday, I was able to out brake Wittmer late in the race and hold on to first position for the final few laps - which would end under a full course yellow. Let me tell you the relief I felt when the full course yellow came out knowing there were only a few minutes to go. I had the race won! Oh the feeling was incredible.

Then of course I did a burnout, in the middle of my burnout while trying to pack 2nd gear I broke an axle and had to be pushed back into the pits :)

What a weekend!
