What is highest maximum operating temperature for the 3.8L V6 hyundai lambda.

I know that normal operating temperature around 170 F to 203 F (coolant temp). Can anyone tell me what the redline for the coolant temp and oil temps are?

is 230 F okay?

haha i just have the engine so I do not have the temp gauge for the genesis.

I looked in my dealer's only manual and the owner's manual but it is not there. I called the hyundai dealer and they didnt know.

The hyundai genesis comes with a temperature gauge? But is it a digital gauge? Can you see the temperature numerically? if so one of you guys with the genesis get in your car and please tell me!

The gauge in the car is analog with hash marks identical to the fuel gauge w/o #'s to indicate temperature. Unless someone can give the reading off an aeroforce scan gauge to you, the info Mchart gave is all I know.

Safe max water temp is relevant to the antifreeze/water ratio and the condition of the radiator cap. As long as it is not boiling over from too much pressure and the cap releasing, then the coolant is doing it's job. But you need to see why it would run that high if the cap is releasing pressure as that would point to a problem elsewhere and would not be good for long term reliability. Look at a coolant water mix table to determine the point that it would boil under pressure.

Max oil temp again would depend on the quality of the oil. New oil still has all the additives and would protect up to ~300F. But it would soon start breaking down. This is where a better quality oil will perform better over something inferior.

That being said most "normal" ranges on ambiguously marked gauges is ~150-160F for the first mark above cold and ~230F for the upper limit. With the 190-200 being in the middle. This has been my observations on many cars. Normally after a good warming period the oil will usually run 20F or so above the coolant temps.

Hey Red Raspberry,

For some reason my sensors are reading around 230 F at two different positions. But the expansion tank is not hot nor is the cap releasing pressure. Bad sensors?

However, a direct reading with a thermostat gun shows temps around 230 F. But coolant is not leaking!


Your observations on many cars coincides with mine. I hope to get to the bottom of my cooling problems soon.

initially, the engine ramps up heat to 177 F. Stays solid at 177 for awhile (takes time to warm up all the circulating coolant). Then it just goes up and up and we have to shut off around 230 F. Our idle speed is 1000 RPM. Once it hits 177 F, it takes about 6 minutes until it hits 230 F. Does that sound right?

Coolant is definitely circulating. No air inside the system.

We have a fan set up that runs all the time and yet it still heats up.

Good luck! Visiting an aircon servicing shop can always do the trick.
