What do you all think of the new Metallica cd "Death Magnetic"?

My opinion is that it goes back to there roots of a more thrasher sound, more riff oriented. which to me is a good thing i think this is a solid cd way better than there mid 90's thru St anger crapfest.

What do you guys think?

Yeah Metallica is ok I'm more of a Megadeth fan myself. The new cd is pretty good though!
Yeah, I'd have to agree with you. I've been a long time Megadeth fan, and they have only put out one simi-bad album (RISK). As for Metallica, their track record is not quite so flawless. Personally, I think that their last good album was the Black Album, but that is a highly debated topic depending on who you talk to. LOL As for their new album, I actually do like it, and I have given it several listenings all the way through...and that's saying a lot for it being a NEW Metallica album. James finally got back to screaming and stopped trying to sing...that's what it really comes down to.

I downloaded the making of Death Magnetic the dvd yesterday. It's interesting to see how they seem to all record there parts seperate and alone. It's a 2 hour dvd, John Kalodner was the producer for this album but I only seen one shot of him in the entire dvd. I don't think he really did much I think for the most part James and Lars produced this album.

We could only imagine what it would have been like if Dave Mustaine would have not been kicked out of Metallica. Imagine the riffs and songs!

The guy that Mastered the new album doesn't even have his name on the credits of the album because he isn't proud of the album and doesn't want his name on it because the tracks they gave him to work with were distorted and mixed crappy. you can tell listen to the new metallica song on Guituir Hero world tour and the same song on death magnetic they sound different the GH version sounds better because they mixed it for the game. And metallica mixed the album version.

I second the notion that the album mix was terrible! They absolutely crushed the dynamic range and it sounds horrendous.

I really did like the fact that they got back to their metal roots though. 100x better than St. Anger.

Caught em live in Milwaukee last month and I must say seeing them in concert is always an experience that never gets old.

I agree that the new album isn't as good as it could have been if the mix hadn't been all fucked up. One thing I'm glad about is that Lars got rid of that fucking steel snare drum he used on St. Anger. I can't listen to any of those songs just cuz that one thing sounds so bad. Although, I'm a drummer, so I tend to pick apart the drums more than most other people would. One other thing that annoys me about this album is James is still doing that "AHH" thing at the end of a lot of the lines in a lot of the songs. Like in My Apocalypse, he sings it like "My apocalypsAHH"
