I just wanted to say Hi & I would like to thank everyone responsible for setting up this web site. I'm a huge Genesis fan & plan on purchasing a GenCoupe in the future...Thanks again... I'm 38 yrs old, single, live in Columbus, Ga, work for a Hyundai dealership as a service advisor & have for the past 9yrs. I have a love for cars that started as a kid due to my fathers profession as an automotive technician. I spend most of my spare time working on my vehicles; 2001 BMW 540i spt, 87' Jeep Wrangler (rockrawler), & 65' Ford Mustang (factory V/8 & A/C). The bimmer is completely stock & in excellent condition, but the Wrangler & Mustang are heavily modified. I intend on buying a GenCoupe; red in color w/lightweight track pkg when available. I intend extensive mods for this vehicle & the HKS version is very close to what I had imagined in my mind prior to its conception. My only dilema is whether to go with the turbo 4cyl or the V/6, simply because I'm not sure which will be easier, more cost efficient (both initial purchase & mods), and will hold up to the modifications, keeping in mind that I want a minimum of 400Hp.

Howdy, TuFast! Thanks for signing up.

Sounds like you have in mind what is what I have in mind as well. LOL. Well if what has been reported by the media is correct, the 4 cylinder engine can take up to 29psi (as reported by Motor Trend magazine) before engine failure. That's a lot of freaking boost! :yikes: My estimates are that the engine was making around 469hp at that point, if my estimate that the 2.0l engine naturally aspirated world engine produces about 158hp is correct. So 400 might be pushing the envelope a little, but as long as you make the supporting mods I'm sure it could handle 400 hp. Could it be reliable, by almost doubling the rated horsepower? That's the real question.

The engine is similar to the one used in the Dodge SRT-4, which is a little bigger in displacement at 2.4l, but I know of people who are turbocharging this engine upwards of 500HP, which is pushing the envelope for that car.

Of course this all depends on the bottom and top end of the engine being able to handle these extreme pressures, time will tell if the world engine in the Genesis coupe is going to be able to handle high horsepower numbers like that. It might be in your best interest to wait and see what others are able to do with the car at SEMA.

Tech training

civictd04, To answer your question regarding tech training, yes very much so, at least at my dealership. Hyundai has put much importance on the Genesis & 2 of my techs are already trained to work on the sedan, but classes are not available on the coupe as of yet. The 2 techs that are trained also happen to be platinum certified by Hyundai in addition to being ASE certified.

Hi Tufast,

I am located in Southern California and looking for a good service department for my new GenCoupe. Is there a listing of platinum certified technicians by dealership ? Would I call the service advisors at the dealers to locate the platinum technicians ? Any advice appreciated.

Hyundai techs

civictd04, I'm sorry to say that Hyundai motors does not sell repair manuals for their vehicles, only owners manuals if lost , etc..You either better know what your doing, take it to the dealer, or try to locate one from a parts store (i.e Autozone, etc) or a bookstore (Booksamillion, etc)

vjkaty, You can try & surf the internet for Hyundai locations near you & they may have that info available on a website, but that will vary dealership to dealership. On the other hand it may be easier to just call Hyundai costomer assistance at 1-800-633-5151 & gather info from them. Finally, if all else fails, get the phone #'s of dealerships near you from customer assistance & call to ask the qualifications of the techs of that particular dealership.

On a similar topic, I've heard on blog sites that people are intimidated about purchasing a Genesis, due to the fact its being sold & serviced right along with Accents, etc.
I don't know about other dealerships, but my customer satisfaction surveys averages quarterly are usually above zone average (i.e South east region) & alot of the time #1 for my zone & customers are telling me regularly how they enjoy doing business with us. So as much as I would like to hear that other Hyundai dealerships have excellent customer service, I do not believe that is the case. So anyone in the Columbus, Ga area looking for a good Hyundai dealership come see me, for the rest, best of luck

Hmm, did you mean a Genesis Sedan? The coupe hasn't started to sell in the US yet.
You're right civictd, the GenCoupe will not be available in the U.S. until spring & the V/8 sedan will be available this winter.

Oh that's a bummer, I always like tinkering with my own vehicles. So it'd be a bummer not to have an official service manual from Hyundai.

civictd04, I agree it is a bummer because I'm the same way, no one works on my vehicles but me if I can help it. Thus far I've yet to run into a problem or mod on any vehicle I've owned that I couldn't handle, at least after a little research.

The only thing I have seen that resembles anything close to a service manual is on Kia's website in the "Owners" section. It was kind of hard to navigate but once you got used to it it wasn't ok. I may have to hit up one of the local service tech guys for an under the table deal on some service manuals :)
