Have vehicles gotten so safe that we'd strap one of our editors, John Krewson, into a car and crash it at 40 mph? We hope so. Because that's exactly what we did. Our premise was simple: we think cars have reached peak safety, and we wanted to find a way to prove it. The automakers and official test facilities wouldn't give us the time of day.
