I've been reading around and it seems that there are an abnormally large number of people reporting transmission grinding/syncro issues after 200 to 6500 miles on the clock. I'm just curious as to how many people are having ANY issues with their manual transmissions grinding or any other issues. Please post up with the details of your problems (mileage, when it started, specifics to gears etc)

Ive got a thread on mine on gencoupe (HUSA officially inspected the trans and all the syncos and cones are being replaced) Personally I feel its a combination of the shitty dualmass clutch/flywheel and the revhang causing excessive wear.

Yeah I read that thread over there and wanted to see if there were any people here that were having the same issue. I'm just trying to see how many people are having the issue and gathering information on the problem. Thanks for posting up Hardmack, I hope that they get everything worked out! BTW, have they given you any issues due to your modifications?

I'm monitoring this very closely. Since I am pretty anal about my cars, I will probably take it to the dealer sooner than later. My Genesis is not my daily driver, so I'm not too concerned, but once I will get this addressed before any major modifications are done. Right now, all I have is the MXP exhaust and the dealer I purchased the car from already gave me a sketchy feeling when I went in recently to discuss the "missing" subrame bushing. I get the feeling if I go back there, they are not going to warranty this work. Luckily there is a dealer much closer and now under new management. A significant improvement than the former owners. So I'll try there.

well,, i have no issue with 5th gear , but

did anybody hear like something rattle, sound( near shifter area) ,, but for sure not grinding noise tho,, when u shift ,,1st to 2nd,,

in korea ,, ( like bk mania forums,,etc) they claimed trany issue as well, after they changed tranny as new one,

same shit happened again,, or some ppl got better ..

I'm hoping that they will issue a recall for the transmissions if the issue gets bad enough. I know that the dealership that I've been working with shouldn't have an issue doing warranty work on the trans if I have issues even though I've done a few mods. I just hope that I have no issues at all (only have 800 miles on the car).

thats rattling is the button label on top of the shifter... when you hear it rattle press your finger on the label for the gear pattern... I bet it goes away...

As for my mods... if a intercooler and bov and the 30hp it adds is going to bring down the tranny I will sell the car lol... thats a joke.

personally I believe its the bullshit clutch and the double bullshit Rev hang they programed into the car... Plain and simple its adding a shitload of extra stresses to the drivetrain that on a "normal" car wouldnt be there.

^^^ Agreed. It makes it difficult to match speed for the syncros when there is flex, via the dual mass flywheel, built into the drivetrain. I understand that they wanted to reduce vibration but seriously, why not balance everything well and use a traditional flywheel? As far as the rev hang is concerned, I can certainly see this causing issues with the trans as well. It acts like a driver applying partial throttle between every shift which increases wear on trans and drivetrain components.

^^^ Me too, but I already did buy the car so I'm just crossing my fingers that I don't have any issues! This has definitely changed the priority order of my future modifications. I think that I will change the trans fluid, swap out the flywheel for a single mass type, and try to get as much of the rev hang tuned out as possible. Of course, I will most likely wait til I get even a hint of a problem before doing this and consult with the dealership first.

^^^Wait on the clutch/flywheel mods until the tranny issue is resolved so the stealership doesn't try some BS.

What ever is causing the grind, it shouldn't be there.

Me & DD have been discussing this in the Hyundai employees forum & I mentioned that my shop forman talked to Tech Line today & they do know that there is a grinding issue with a few of the M/T units & are working on it. Give them some time to figure it out. As of right now they are recommending fluid exchange with Red Line 75W90, but let the dealer do it. If you actually have the problem, take it in so it can be documented & let them talk to Tech Line to follow procedure.

The less mods you have the better, but I don't see where any of these mods could be attrubuted to this concern, esp considering there are others out there w/o mods complaining about the same thing. Just don't do any mods to the tranny & keep overall power output levels down if possible until this is resolved.

I hope that all this is taken care of B4 I take possession of my car....LoL

Good pointers Tufast. I definitely planned to wait and see while putting some more miles on my car and accumulating parts for the next stage of the build. I'll have to put in a call to my Hyundai dealership and see if I can schedule a transmission fluid change for now.

I think the poll was a bit mis leading. I'm having the grind issue when shifting INTO 5th gear, FROM 4th. IMO I would classify this as a 4-5th grind. which is not listed on your poll. I'm guessing your poll is suggesting "5-6th" as grinding when shifting into EITHER 5th or 6th gear?? :dunno: but I'm not sure.

In summary, I brought it to dealer, they looked at it, had a hyundai field engineer come look at it, and now they are replacing the entire transmission under warranty. so not THAT big of a deal. as long as you haven't voided your warranty already....

Yeah, the most common grind issue is going from 4th into 5th or different issue when slowing going from 3rd to 2nd & 2nd to 1st.

The M/T we replaced for the same issue you just had yours replaced for is being looked at internally now by Hyundai to try to figure what improvements need to be made I guessing.

I hope both......When any auto manufacture finds concerns with a product, they will want to correct it for future generations. But, they will also want to implement the improvement on cars of that same generation that have not been assembled yet. They will also want to retrofit the cars already relseased with said issue by way of recall campaign of technical service bulletin.

No grinding just doesnt like to go into gear when downshifting. It is a fight most of the time in slow traffic or stopping and going back into 1st or 2nd... I hate the trans in this car!

TiC shifter bushings should make a huge difference & there will be short throw shifters available from TiC & MODE real soon.

But, that does not negate the fact that the transmission should not have these issues to begin with.....hint-hint, Hyundai if you are listening....
