Do you have any issues with your trans such as:

For those of you having issues shifting into the lower gears, I also had this problem when I 1st got my car. I chose to replace the stock fluid with Redline 75w90 along with the TiC front shifter bushings & haven't had an issue since. Also; I will mention that I've had no issues with 5th gear grind either. I'm not saying that the fluid exchange prevented this, but it may have.
I can't recall...are the 2.0 and 3.8 tranny's the same?

The M/T 6 speeds are slightly different with a seperate part#s, but the same fluid can be used in either one. The V/6 version has more allowable torque according to Hyundai documentation, making me think it may be a little stronger.

I've got to revisit the fluid issue. Soon. I'm going to email Redline and Royal Purple and see what they can recommend in their product lines.
Redline 75w90 has worked great for me, but I think I may move up to Redline light weight shock proof for the additional abuse of tracking the vehicle.

I guess the motul 300 gear oil is good to put in the trans and diff. the diff is the same as the s2k "LSD"which can use the oil. Should be changing it all out on sunday.

i'm torn between using reline light shockproof or the 75w90. I drive alot, i have slight syncro issues going into 5th, it doesnt grind bad you just have to go slow putting it into to 5th. Anyone know which have a god suggestion on which fluid to go with?

THis is the response I got from Reline with my problems:

Me: Issues: Hard 1-2 shifting when either tranny is cold, esp in colder months of the year, seems to get much better when the tranny is driven atleast 15 miles and get's up to full op temp. No grinding in reverse. Sometimes 1st will not engage when cold except at a dead stop, even 2d gear is tough to get in, but again, much better when the tranny is hot. I have a mix of Redline MTL and 75/90, about 50/50 mix with these symptoms. No better than stock fluid. Hyundai has had the tranny out of the car and inspected the entire driveline, says nothing is wrong with it. I need a superior performing fluid for the colder months!!! I wondered about an GL5 ATF, if that might be a recommendation.

Redline:

Thank you for contacting Red Line Oil, are you using a mix of 75W90 and MTL? The 75W90 contains a friction modifier and as a result would likely be too slippery for the synchros, giving the symptoms you describe. Hyundai allows a 75W85 viscosity fluid, the reason in the past we have recommended a blend of MTL and MT-90 and the application for the new 75W85 viscosity gear oil, the MT-85 . The MTL would be an option for winter low temperature shiftability though a lower viscosity than recommended.

A GL-5 gear oil typically won’t shift quite as well as a GL-4, many GL-5's contain a friction modifier and as a result would be too slippery for the synchros. An ATF will work in a manual transmission but is a lower viscosity than recommended in this transaxle, the next step lower than the MTL.

Thanks for the post Austin, because its good to hear from Redline themselves & their opinion on the subject. WIth that said, I've heard so many different recommendations for our M/T fluid & what does/does not work on these trannies, I'm not sure what to go with. Also; I'm not sure why my Redline 75w90 is working so well when others are having problems running the same fluid. I've had it in my car for the entire time of ownership; 9 months & 10k miles with no issues what-so-ever. Maybe I was just lucky & got one of the better trannies, but I'm going stick with what I have now since it is working thus far & maybe change it out with what I think will best suited for my needs, which is the lightweight shockproof. If I have problems, I will address them at the time that they occur.

Initial impressions are very very good, 1/2 shift is smooth, goes in easy whereas I had to put in gear with some purposefullness where it would clank and give a little resistance. I drove it mixed in town and some 55mph back roads and it just feels better too, like it finally has the lubrication it needs; smoother.

I'm excited, real excited so far, hopefully the morning drive will be just as good after having sat overnight and cooler air temps.

Sounds promising. Right now I've still got the Redline 75w90, but was thinking of changing B4 it gets too cold. The 75w90 has been wonderful during the summer, but last winter gave a little difficulty engaging until it warmed up. I was thinking of using Redline Lighweight Shockproof because of my tracking the vehicle, but I'm torn between that & the Redline you have in yours now.

Im still having problems with getting in to first if I'm not at a dead stop when the tranny is cold, the 2d gear engagement is rough at the same time. I still like this fluid alot better though and seems to get smoother quicker when the tranny gets warm. I'd say that having in for a few days that the 1-2 shift when cold isn't any better.

Just dropped mine off yesterday for the 5th gear grind and rattle on shutdown, getting a new trans... Hopefully it's the last time I have to get it swapped.

That rattle on shutdown was one of my complaints, I can hear it distinctly in my garage. Service Tech dropped the trans and I assume went all through that part of the driveline (trans, clutch, etc) and found the DMF "coming apart". They replaced it but that did nothing to my complaints about the 1-2 shifting.

mine has to go to the dealer next week . since i have been compalining about my tranny since i bought it nad now temp is getting colder so first gear is starting to be tough again and now at 35000 km my clutch is starting to slip so ill have a fight with hyundai canada on that

they made a fix for my tranny and clutch , they changed the master cylinder for the clutch they told me it wasnt the main one but the one for the clutch and it made a hell of a difference the shifting is alot smoother and the 2nd gear doesnt make any more clunk and clutch grip faster then it use to be the mechanic at the dealer told me they had the same problem on the tiburon of the earlier years so pass the word it did make a good difference maybe a problem in the pressure in the hydaulik was the problem hope that help other owner of genesis coupe

Glad they got it fixed, but still a little confused on what they did. The brake master cylinder is the same one that drives the clutch system on this vehicle. There is also an internal concentric slave cylinder that the throw out bearing is a part of. Is the slave cylinder what they replaced?

I have a faint noise coming from my TOB when clutch is engaged & had planned on replacing my concerntric slave cylinder/TOB when I swapped the OEM clutch out for the Exceladyne unit I have. It would be nice to know if Hyundai has an updated slave cylinder that will help with gear engagement available at that time.

any hope is good, that new fluid I'm trying (above) my impressions now are that it's useless to my complaints. It felt nice right away but the 1-2 is still garbage, tough, loud, won't go into first when < full operating temp. I hate this trans.

X10000

Haven't tried any different fluids but my replacement tranny is just as bad as my original. Now instead of grinding into 5th it won't let me downshift from 5th without passing the gate for 6th first. Have to shift to 5 1/2 before hitting 4th, 3rd, etc. It'll let me go straight to 6th from 5th but that's it. First cold morning since I got the transmission today and, what do you know, 2nd gear was all but impossible to get into. :flame::flame:

That V8 swap from G&M Performance is sounding better and better to me as the days go on. At least that way I could ditch this POS 6MT.
